Boyce, Sonia

Sonia Boyce, born 1962, is a British artist, living and working in London as Professor of Black Art and Design at University of the Arts London and Professor at Middlesex University. Her work is political in nature, focussing on issues of racial prejudice and discrimination. Boyce was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2007, for services to art, and was elected as a member of the Royal Academy in 2016.  In 2021 Boyce will become the first black woman to represent Britain at the Venice Biennale.
