RTE Radio 1 celebrates Michael Longley's 70th birthday with a special programme.
Posted on: Wednesday, August 05, 2009Sean Rocks presents a special tribute programme dedicated to Michael Longley with Fran Brearton, author of Reading Michael Longley and poet Frank Ormsby who edited the literary magazine ‘The Honest Ulsterman’.
This hour-long programme celebrates Michael’s life and art and brings in poems read by the man himself including, ‘The West’, ‘Remembering Carrigskeewaun’ and ‘Swans Mating’. Robin Robertson, editor of the festschrift Love Poet Carpenter, talks a little about how the book came to be and the origins of its title. A selection of contributors to Love Poet Carpenter, including Seamus Heaney, read their poems and dedications.
