FAQs
How did Enitharmon start? It was started in London in 1967 by the bibliophile and book dealer Alan Clodd, initially as the poetry press, but in the next 20 years until his retirement in 1987 it also published literary criticism, letters, journals and a few translations. This is still the basis of the Enitharmon list, though it has widened to include many more translations, a small amount of fiction, and a substantial list of artists’ books.
How do Enitharmon commission work? In the trade list, books are either commissioned from the existing writers on our list, after discussion with Enitharmon's editor Stephen Stuart-Smith, or from writers new to us, especially poets publishing their first collections. The process of commissioning becomes more complex with the artists’ books published by Enitharmon Editions, because they are elaborate de luxe books which grow out of collaborations between artists and writers: text and image, though interconnected, are separately commissioned and generally have a lengthy period of gestation.
How many authors do Enitharmon commission in total? Up to 20 a year.
I am a new artist. Can I send my work in to you? Not without a preliminary enquiry to the editor.
Do authors receive a percentage of books sold on the Enitharmon website? Yes.
Do you sell books elsewhere other than the Enitharmon website? Yes: many other places. Books can be ordered directly from us by post or over the phone. Bookshops either stock or can order our books. Websites such as Amazon and Abe Books can also provide them.
The following FAQs are about buying books from our site: I’m having problems registering. What’s wrong?
In the registration form you need to ensure your country is listed. If you have to re-enter information or choose another username, your country details will default to ‘Please Select Country’; simply re-enter your country and press the register button. This should solve the problem. If you’re still having difficulties, please contact us at info@enitharmon.co.uk with the details.
Can I gift wrap and send to separate addresses? Our system can only process gift wrapping and delivery for your complete order. If you email us after you have placed your order we will try to help but we can’t guarantee we will be able to especially during busy periods. What is the delivery charge? Postage and packing is charged for individual books. Visit our shop page for details of our current shipping prices. What if I want to return my order? We hope that you won’t need to return any of your books, however if you find you do we will refund you on receipt of the books. Why can’t I use my back button from the Secure Payment page? The Secure Payment page is managed by World Pay on its website and even though it looks like our site is actually annexed to it. This means that you can’t go back using the back button. However you can continue browsing the Enitharmon website by clicking on the home button in the logo on the banner or continue shopping by clicking the highlighted text.
